In Northern Ireland, the NI Dairy Cow Championship, the Dairy Cow Championship of John Nompson & Sons / Northern Ireland (NISA), will soon begin.
The championship will begin with qualifying rounds at regional exhibitions. The final of 2019 will take place at the 113th Antrim Show, Saturday, July 27, at the exhibition venues at the Shains Castle Estate, Randalstown Road, Antrim.
A substantial prize fund has been prepared for the six best cows that reached the finals; in addition, a prize fund for animals in the nominations “Top Exhibitor Bred” and “Best Udder” has been assigned, not to mention a voucher for 10 bags of food. The championship is open to all breeds of dairy cows, whether it is an animal with or without pedigree, but there is a prerequisite: cows must be qualified in the Thompson / NISA class at the qualifying show before the final - without this, cows can not be selected for the Antrim Show on the day of the final .Thompsons Sales Director Gordon Donaldson said the NI Dairy Cow Championship is one of the best competitions of its kind.
“As for a small country, Northern Ireland boasts some of the best dairy cows and leading dairy herds in the UK and Ireland. The continued success of the Championship is a testament to the hard work that breeders do every year, and our goal is to keep the competition going strong, ”said Gordon Donaldson.
