The Zimbabwean government has signed contracts with Belarus and the John Deere company for the supply of equipment for the mechanization of agriculture for a total amount of $ 100 million.
By doing so, the country wants to reduce the shortage of funds in mechanization, which is estimated to exceed 543,000 units of agricultural equipment.
Vangelis Haritatos, Deputy Minister of Land, Agriculture, Water Management, Climate and Rural Settlement of Zimbabwe, said: “We are at an advanced stage, we have signed contracts with the Belarusian government and John Deere. I will fly to Belarus for a whole week to make sure that the deal is moving forward.
The financial amount in Belarus is 52 million US dollars, with “John Deere” the transaction amount is 50 million US dollars. The deal should provide the country with tractors, combines, seeders and much more. ”
“Mechanization is certainly a huge problem that we faced in Zimbabwe, because we have a shortage of 33,000 tractors, 500,000 combines and 10,000 seeders, so we need to quickly cover this shortage so that we can develop the agricultural sector,” continued the deputy minister.
Also Vangelis Haritatos said that the government intends to eliminate the deficit of mechanization of the country's agriculture over the next three years.
