Many gardeners and gardeners have a desire to design a decorative pond. To waterproof the pond at a high level, a PVC film is used. In this article you will learn how to glue it as tight as possible, and what the process of working with the material implies.
How can I glue a PVC film
For gluing individual PVC sheets, it is recommended to use a specially designed mounting adhesive. It has high strength and traction. The main nuances include the need for shaking before use, as well as cleaning the surface of dust and greasy layer, otherwise the effect of glue will deteriorate significantly. You should also not use it, deviating from the norm: too thin a layer of the product will not bring the desired effect, and too thick - will not dry in the air after the time specified in the instructions.
How to seal
When bonding several parts of the film, it is necessary to adhere to the consistent algorithm of actions, which is provided below. In addition, it is important to measure the depth of the pond and the dimensions of the material used. At a distance of 0.75 m from the bottom to the surface of the water, samples approximately 0.5 mm thick are suitable. For a pond deeper (up to one and a half meters) you should buy a film of 1 mm. There is also a heavy-duty material called butyl rubber PVC, which will be the optimal solution for very deep water bodies.
Important! The mounting adhesive used in this type of repair contains more than 80% methyl ethyl ketone. It is very important not to smoke or make a fire next to this artificial substance, since it is very flammable.
Cleaning the film from dirt and dust
One of the most important steps on which the reliability and durability of a solid web depends, is the removal of small particles and dirt from the surface of the film. For this, a chemical called ligroin is used. When applying it (only according to the instructions), the strips should already lie on a clean, dry surface, where they will be glued together, because during transfer the material can again absorb dust.
Bonding process
If you decide to glue two sheets of PVC film, you must act strictly according to the instructions:
- Place the two pieces of material to be joined tightly together. They should be on a dry basis, such as thick cardboard.
- Apply a cleaner, wait 10-15 minutes to weather the odor.
- Spread glue on the joint surface (overlap of one part to another should be 15 cm). After that, press the strips so that the glue sticks. Just ironing the joint with your hand is not enough, so any heavy load will come to the rescue: books, bricks, bags of rubble or sand.
- The film should be under such a load for about half an hour, after which you can wipe the adhesive protruding beyond the edges.
- The hitch at this stage is not worth checking. It is necessary to let the canvas lie down for about a day to dry completely (at a temperature of +15 ... + 18 ° C).
- After that, the material can be used for waterproofing the reservoir.

After carrying out these simple actions, you will get a durable waterproofing that can withstand both hot weather and the difference in winter temperatures. The basic rule is the quality preparation (cleaning) of the material and the use of proven sealants.
