Usually in the village of Borzhavskoye, Vinogradovskiy district, work is already in full swing in early July. But now it is deserted, the destroyed greenhouses are abandoned. Their owners massively went to work in Europe.
Farmer Ivan Terninko is almost the only one who decided to start all over again. bushes of tomatoes in their 4 greenhouses. Regular customers helped financially, because the family of vegetable growers spent all their savings on the fact that the water took it.
Ivan Terninko says that he lost hundreds of thousands of hryvnias. And now for one greenhouse, which needs to be fully planted with tomatoes and bring them to harvest, you need to spend 12 thousand UAH.All the farmer's greenhouses were flooded. He cleaned them and now grows tomatoes again. But in hot weather, plants grow poorly even with daily drip irrigation, says the farmer.
Most farmers, who also cultivated tomatoes in greenhouses, left to work. Some farmers rent land in neighboring villages. They are afraid to come back here, they are afraid of a new flood.
Local residents say that almost all able-bodied men of the village left. They want to compensate for the losses and earn money on the restoration of the economy. This is the situation here for the first time. Hardworking villagers could always earn a living. Most families were fed by farming, and the village was always famous for tomatoes.
Yuri Herbik sells what he collected from 10 hundred parts of a garden near the house. Only 100 boxes, but you won’t be able to earn much, because the price of tomatoes is 14 UAH / kg. According to Yuri, he will only return the invested funds, there is no question of earning money.
As residents of the village of Borzhavskoye say, there will be no good harvest this year, because after the flood the heat came. The 2019 season has been the worst for local farmers in the past few decades. They hope to restore greenhouses at least partially next year.
