Last year, the first intensive almond garden in Ukraine was planted in the Kiev region. During planting in autumn and spring, almond seedlings from Italy with a closed root system, which were grown using ex-vitro micocloning technology, were used, EastFruit experts said.
The first landings were carried out in September last year, and the last took place in the early days of June 2019. Despite the difficult weather conditions of this spring, the loss was within 1%.
The garden uses a drip irrigation system, and each tree has a support. There is no data on the planting scheme, but it is already clear that this is an intensive type garden.
The name of the enterprise and the name of the investor have not been disclosed, but EastFruit experts found information that the project was initiated by Besana (Besana) from Italy. At the same time, Italian experts in the field of growing nuts monitor the technological support of the project.
Besana has been dealing with nuts since 1921. At present, it sends about 25 thousand tons of dried fruits and nuts for processing every year. The company sells 75% of its products through supermarket chains, as well as companies that use nuts as raw materials for the manufacture of products.
Besana also works with Ukrainian hazelnut producers. She sells her seedlings on the Ukrainian market and offers technological support. In addition, the company's specialists are studying the possibilities of pistachio cultivation in the southern regions of Ukraine, in particular, in the Kherson and Odessa regions.
