Honduran exporters are not overjoyed by the Russian "banana demand" - according to representatives of the Guild of Banana Producers, no one buys from them as much fruit as the residents of the Russian Federation.

Bananas grown in Honduras are very popular among global purchasers. But the biggest “box office” is made by Russians and Ukrainians. This was reported in the independent Guild of banana producers.

“We did not immediately enter the markets of Ukraine and Russia,” notes Hector Castro, president of the Guild. - But as soon as they established contact with these countries, they were surprised at their procurement volumes. The last quarter of this year showed record results. ”

According to the chairman of the Guild, in 2018 bananas became almost the main generator of foreign currency in Honduras, giving way to only coffee products.

Honduras traders like this trend, and they only intend to strengthen trade ties with Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

“Last month, Russian businessmen came to us,” Castro says. “Businessmen have personally witnessed the production process of our banana industry and, noting the high quality, have signed an agreement favorable for both parties to export large quantities of bananas to the Russian Federation.”

The revenue for the Honduran bananas sold in 2018 is impressive - exporters managed to earn about $ 650 million for fruits. Buyers from Central Europe and the United States of America also contributed to this amount.

“Yes, Americans and Europeans are without a doubt profitable customers,” the Guild notes. - But Russia is beyond competition. After all, this country alone bought as many bananas in a week as we usually sell throughout the year. ”
