Easter eggs are one of the most important traditions of Christian holidays. According to custom, they are painted on Thursday or Saturday just before Easter.
Everyone knows that the easiest way to paint is to buy ready-made dyes from the store, but in this case we cannot be sure what the result will be, and even more so, we cannot be calm about the quality and safety of the factory product. That is why in recent years, we are increasingly turning to the methods of our grandmothers. And if you have never tried this method, you will be surprised how many fruits and vegetables can be useful for creating a rich and most importantly natural color that is in no way inferior to artificial.
Preparation of eggs for painting
Eggs should be at least three days old in freshness, since then they are very easy to peel without damaging the protein. It is best to use eggshells, because natural dyes are not as aggressive and bright as artificial ones, and on brown shells they are almost will not be visible.
Before you start coloring the eggs, you must carefully wash them, since any speck of dust or feather will be an obstacle to uniform coloring.
Staining methods
There are two options for how to paint with natural paints:
- Boil the eggs directly with the dye, then the shade will be denser and brighter.
- Boil the eggs separately, and then paint them by putting them in the cooked broth for 30 minutes to several hours.
What products can be painted?
Products that can be used are sold on every corner and are available to everyone.
For painting in red, you can use the following ingredients:

For green
Dried spinach, broth of blueberries, parsley. If you mix spinach, turmeric and blueberries, you get a wonderful green color.
For blue
Frozen blueberries or blueberries, red cabbage. You can also mix red homemade wine with water by adding 1 tbsp. l vinegar.
For gray
Juice from blue and red grapes, juice from beets. Frozen cherries with juice gives a rich gray tint.
With each dye, observe the degree of density and saturation to choose a more appropriate nuance. When you have reached a suitable tone, leave the dries to dry and walk on them with cotton or a cotton pad soaked in oil to give them a shine.
Since ancient times, monophonic eggs are called “dye”, painted - “Easter eggs”, and wooden - “eggs”.
You can diversify the design of your eggs by making them colorful. For this purpose, there are many options: for example, an egg, painted in a light tone, wrap with thread or elastic, and lower it into dark paint. Thus, the eggs will become even more colorful and interesting.
Before you start cooking eggs, you can draw some kind of drawing or write a wish on them with wax. Pigment due to wax cannot penetrate the shell.
Feel free to mix colors and enjoy the beautiful rainbow combinations that come out. This is a lot of fun and most importantly, you do not need to compromise on the health of your family and loved ones, and the cleanliness of the environment. This feeling is unique!
