The reason for the failure of the negotiations is the refusal of the European Union, mainly France, which has developed agriculture and a strong farming lobby, to include on the agenda of negotiations the issue of access of American agricultural products to the EU markets, which the Americans have repeatedly insisted on. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, described the EU’s position in trade relations as tougher than Chinese.
The futility of trade negotiations between the United States and the European Union threatens Europe with the introduction of new American export duties on goods from Europe and, in particular, new, higher (up to 25%) tariffs on European cars. Currently, the USA has a symbolic 2.5% duty on cars from Europe, while the European duty on American cars is 10%.
It should be noted that Germany favored the resumption of trade negotiations as soon as possible, but at the same time warned against haste.
