In western Poland, in the province of Lebus, another wild boar infected with ASF was discovered. Polish veterinary authorities confirmed this yesterday.
This is one of the 20 dead wild boars that were discovered during the weekend during an intensive search for wild boar populations around the first section of ASF. from the German-Polish border.
On Friday, the Polish Veterinary Service announced the first find in western Poland. It was a female wild boar, who died in a traffic accident. In a routine blood test, ASF virus was detected by the State Veterinary Institute in Pulawy.
The second corpse infected with ASF was discovered last Saturday, six kilometers from the first section. The results of the investigation of 19 dead pigs remaining over the weekend are still expected.
To date, ASF activities in Poland have been concentrated mainly in the east and north of the country. Experts suspect a long jump of 300 km. to the west is probably due to human negligence.
In a press release, the Polish veterinary authorities speak of a case of ASF that cannot epidemiologically or geographically relate to previously reported cases of ASF in eastern Poland.
