African swine fever is spreading to new areas in the north of the country, the disease has already been reported in the capital of Hanoi, more than 120,780 infected animals have been slaughtered, the city department of agriculture and rural development reports.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, May 14, Director of the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Department Nguyen Nguk San said that ASF outbreaks were recorded in all 24 districts and the city’s okrug.

ASF affected large pig farms with a high degree of biological safety, as well as 7,760 pig farms. In order to prevent the spread of the disease, special units were sent to quarantine checkpoints.

From May 7-14, ASF outbreaks were recorded in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai.

In order to stop the destructive spread of the disease, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Wang Han held a working meeting with local residents on May 14, at which he emphasized that the risk of further spread of the virus is high, and there are no vaccines against it.

Nguyen Wang Han called for decisive action to protect nearly 500,000 pigs belonging to 49,000 households in the province.
