The innovative production of greenhouse crops on the slopes of Etna was opened by Gaetano Barbera. Together with his brother Domenico, he began his agricultural activities about 30 years ago.
Direct speech: “In those days, few believed that vegetables could be grown in a greenhouse at the foot of Mount Etna,” says Barbera. “However, thanks to some of the beliefs that I made myself by observing the experimental greenhouse in the area, I launched an initial investment to implement the necessary structures.”
Direct speech: “Three decades have passed, and today we produce vegetables in greenhouses with an area of more than 40 thousand m²,” says Barbera.
Wild tomatoes are still found in South America. Their fruits weigh no more than 1 g.
Direct speech: “The differences undoubtedly lie in our climatic conditions, water quality and growing system. The size of the tomato is large, and the color is always a little more pronounced than the shades in the catalogs of seed companies, but the taste of my vegetables convinces my guests above all. ”

The crops grown here are mainly tomatoes, as well as aromatic plants such as basil and parsley, as well as watermelons, squash, and squash flowers.
