For some, it may seem strange - there is so much noise due to lamb, but for this O'Brien family, the appearance of five spring lambs was the beginning of a crazy new period of round-the-clock feeding.
The family assures that their new residents are never threatened to be cooked with meat sauce.
“We are very attached to these five,” says farmer Margaret O'Brien. “These newborns will remain with us as pets. You have to feed them every 3 hours. Honestly, this is probably even more difficult than looking after the children. ”The family, set up near Blarney in Cork, started sheep farming as a hobby in 2009, when the head of the family, Declan Holland, bought two lambs for his daughters. The family consists of the parents of four daughters: Chloe, Sarah, Megan, Amy and the youngest son of Jaden.
For one lambing, a sheep usually gives birth to 2-3 babies with an average weight of 5 kilograms.
Children devoted much time to caring for animals and watched how the herd over the years grew to 100 individuals. All children were prepared for the birth of five new lambs after the mother-sheep was scanned at the very beginning of pregnancy.
“This is just the case when we all went into labor early Sunday morning. All five: 4 females and 1 male, appeared with a difference of about one minute. It is very unexpected that all five are safe and sound. And their mother is doing great. She takes great care of them, ”says Margaret.
“However, now we have to feed three of us by hand, because it’s hard for mother to care for everyone at once. This is a 24-hour process that has been going on for 72 hours in a row. We hope to keep the family in the barn for several days, and then, depending on the weather, we plan to let them out into the fields, ”added the farmer.
